On the Spring game, a blizzard and way too many other things

We watched the other Deavers here a bit ago. Nine little people under one roof and Luke and I managed it like the good parents we are—we put them all in front of the TV!

This was after the March snow had melted, but before our epic blizzard of April. I told them it was too early in the season to turn on the sprinkler, so they ran through the neighbors instead.

We had another round of sickness go through our house this month. We took turns with some stomach virus. One day Dominic and I both stayed home. I could not get up the energy to make the kiddos breakfast, so I laid on the couch and walked them through how to make scrambled eggs in the microwave. We only had one egg explosion, which Leo cleaned up by himself pretty well. Nice to know these kids hardly need me anymore Smile

We started feeding this beauty solids. And by “feeding,” I mean “prying-her-mouth-open-with-a-spoon-and-begging-her-to-eat.” That happened for 2 weeks until we realized she probably just didn’t like rice cereal (can you blame her?) Now she’s scarfing down bananas twice a day and seems to be a much happier baby!

My brother came to visit for a few hours. It was a beautiful day, so we walked to Sonic. Also, Jake made the kids walk on the ceiling and put them on the roof of the car, per Leo’s request.

Our friends had us over before Easter for a Easter egg hunt, dying, playing extravaganza. Lots and lots of kiddos!

We’re still struggling with Luke’s back around here, so Lizzy joined me in taking five kids to the Spring Game in Lincoln. It was a blast and so fun to experience with them, but I’m sure it was the most stressful thing I’ve ever done with them. I gave them each bracelets with my number and strict instructions about what to do should they get lost. It was a hot day, but the kids did awesome. Even Lucy took the whole day like a champ. We didn’t lose any kids! (We also didn’t really watch any football, but it was fun to experience the atmosphere)

And then we got stuck at my parents for an extra day because it’s Nebraska and sometimes it snows 8” in April. The big boys got an extra day off school.

Our only snowman of the winter. And did I mention it was April??

The day Dominic and I stayed home from school, he was supposed to go on a field trip to Eileen’s cookies and other fun stuff in Kearney. He wept for 30 minutes because he was soooo sad to miss. I promised him we’d take our own field trip on one of his days off of school. We went to Eileen’s cookies, Walmart (yea, that wasn’t their favorite part…), McDonalds, and the Children’s museum. It was the first time I’ve really tried to fill a whole day with fun since Lucy was born and we attracted A LOT of attention!  We couldn’t take two steps without comments about our family size. “You’ve got your hands full” was the most common, but “You have a beautiful family” was the favorite!

Some Leo-isms

109

He’s had some good ones lately.

Leo, running inside: Mom! I think I heard an Elephant outside.

Me: Well, be sure to let me know if you end up seeing it.

Leo: Ok, if I see a little bit of a trunk, I’ll come tell you.

Leo, exasperated that I wasn’t understanding what he was trying to tell me: Mom, mom, let me con-splain it to ya!

Leo, while taking a bath: Please turn the hot water immediately.

Me: What do you think “immediately” means?

Leo: All the way. Turn the hot water all the way.

Leo, on the top floor of our courthouse building: I’m gonna go look at the world. (proceeds to look out window)

Leo, running upstairs, clearly frustrated and angry: Mom, Jackson’s on the devil’s team!

Me: Why would you say that? I don’t want you saying that.

Leo: Well, Jackson called me stupid.

And, this one’s for you, dad!

Leo, very matter-of-factly: Well, life’s not fair!
