More Birthday Celebrations and some Lucy milestones

We are a whole weekend of fun for Dominic’s 7th birthday. The Monday after his big day, Dominic had his Spring program at school and then Jake and Jena, and family, my mom and grandma and Luke’s parents came for a quick party of cake and ice cream and presents.

He chose a Husker themed party, which ended up being a cake with an “N” on it and red plates. He was perfectly happy with that!

We are so thankful for lots of family to celebrate Dominic’s life with us!

Mom and grandma stayed the night and spent a few hours making Lego creations with the twins and Leo in the morning!

We have slowly started to get into a rhythm this summer. I’ve been trying (somewhat  unsuccessfully) to balance getting things done around the house and spending quality time with the kiddos. Transitions are just tricky and the one we are in (school year to summer) has been no different.

We did sign up for free bowling and enjoyed playing one game in Kearney.

Lizzy and Chris came for a weekend and they worked from sun up ‘til sun down fixing our shed and painting the boys’ rooms downstairs. They turned out amazing! It’s nice to have an artist in the family!

The before and after (not completely finished, but hopefully before the kids graduate high school…)

T-ball has begun! These three boys are on a team with Jessica and are coached by Luke and Uncle Jake. It’s the Deaver team! They are pretty good—and by “pretty good” I mean at least they pay attention to what’s going on in the game. At this point, that is basically all it takes to be successful! It is so fun watching them all on the field at the same time. Jackson and Patrick still wave to me periodically and glance over to see my reactions after a good play or hit, which I love. Dominic’s too cool for all that, though! Dominic and Jackson are really enjoying it. Patrick could take it or leave it, but he’s a good sport and always gives his best effort.

Joe and Leo are very good spectators (as is Lucy who sits so nicely in her stroller).

We also did a short road trip to Lincoln to visit Beth and Emily. Turns out, this is the only picture I took—a break at a rest stop on the way to Lincoln while I fed Lucy. The boys played in the sand in their jammies. It was a chaotic trip, but it was nice to see friends!

This beautiful girl is scooting all over now! Since she turned 7 months, she can army crawl anywhere she wants to go! She’s also putting everything into her mouth. She had one great night of sleep—10 1/2 hours-- but it was a fluke and she was back to her every-three-hour-eating routine the next night. She’s babbling quite a bit, but is generally a very serious baby. She doesn’t give out smiles very easily to those outside the family. She’s also developed a pretty dramatic cry. She likes attention—who can blame her? Smile

Dominic is 7!

Dear, sweet Dominic,

We are so thankful for your life and the blessing you are to our family! You are a very special little boy. You love reading and have moved on to the big world of chapter books. You love rest time now because it gives you the peace and quiet to read for long periods of time. It is often difficult to get you to put down your book to do other things. Playing football and baseball with your brothers is a favorite past time. I can often find you and Jackson throwing the ball around (though neither of you have mastered catching, yet) or playing one-on-one touch football. You have a great thirst for knowledge. There wasn’t anything about school that you didn’t love! Math, Science, reading, and, of course, PE and recess were the parts of your day that you enjoyed the most. You are often the peacemaker in the family and your younger brothers really look up to you. You are such a help with Lucy, too, and you can always make her smile! What makes us so proud, though, is your awesome love for Christ. I am truly humbled by your unique relationship with Jesus. If you are ever drawing or writing stories, it is almost always about Jesus. One night, as I was tucking you into bed, you told me, “After you turn off the lights, mom, I talk to Jesus for a bit. I’ll pray for my family and friends and then I just listen to hear His voice.” When I asked if you ever heard Jesus speak to you, you said, “No, but I just keep listening.” You beg me to let you earn money by doing chores because you want to give all your money to the poor. I’ve reminded you a few times that you are welcome to keep some of the money for yourself, but you always tell me, “Mom, I don’t need money for anything, so I can just give it to people who don’t have money or food.” We are so excited to see how Jesus will use you as His instrument in the world! Happy Birthday, Dominic!

Love, Mommy
